In about 1947, the Okeover estate loaned a field in Shirley to the village. This generous act provided a recreation area for the benefit of locals and the arrangement still applies today.
Shirley Parish Council originally managed the field, but in May 2002 they set up the Shirley Sports and Social Association to look after it and to develop social interaction in the village.
The Association’s main aim is to provide and maintain a Shirley Sports Field for as many villagers, local communities and visitors as possible, while also developing social facilities and leisure activities.
The Association currently has 18 members, most of whom live in Shirley Village.
Our sports field is used by local residents for exercise and dog walking. It is also regularly used by local football clubs, including Ashbourne Aztecs and Weston. We would love to host your forthcoming event. Please get in touch via the booking form here.
