About Us

In about 1947, the Okeover estate loaned a field in Shirley to the village. This generous act provided a recreation area for the benefit of locals and the arrangement still exists today.

Shirley Parish Council originally managed the field, but in May 2002 they set up the Shirley Sports and Social Association to look after it and to improve social life in the village.

The Association’s main aim is to provide and maintain a Shirley Sports Field for as many villagers, local communities and visitors as possible, while also developing social events and leisure activities.

The Association currently has 18 members, most of whom live in Shirley Village.

Our sports field is used by local residents for exercise and dog walking. It is also regularly used by local football clubs, including Ashbourne Aztecs U13s boys and girls and Weston FC Summer League.
