Film Nights – 2019

The first Film Night of the 2019/20 season will be held on Friday 27th September from 7pm, for a 7.30pm showing at St. Michael’s Church, Shirley.

The film is a contemporary story of love, rejection and triumph as a young Maori girl fights to fulfill a destiny her grandfather refuses to recognize.

“a very moving, endearing film which is beautifully acted by young, deservedly Oscar-nominated Keisha Castle-Hughes”.

Refreshments and snacks will be available from the licensed bar, before and during the show.

Daffodil planting – we need your help

On Saturday 12th October, starting at 10am in St Michael’s church, Shirley Parish Council will be hosting a Daffodil Bulb Planting session.

Daffodils brighten up our villages. In springtime we see them all around us, but the roadside verges in and around Shirley are very sparsely planted, if at all. The Council have identified 16 sites in and around Shirley which would benefit from more verge planting, and now they need our help.

Come along to the church where you will be shown how and where to plant the bulbs. Small groups will then be sent to each site to plant it out.

Next spring should really be something to look forward to.
