Friday 25th January in St. Michaels’ church, Shirley at 7pm for a 7.30pm showing. In this film you are invited back to the magical Greek island of Kalokairi. This musical sequel is based on the songs of a famous Swedish 70’s band.
Just a quick reminder that Derby Lane will be closed in Shirley from 8th to 10th January, from its junction with Back Lane for a distance of 180 metres in a north easterly direction (that is, out of the village towards Derby). A diversion via Church Lane and Hall Lane will be in place.
The full text of the Road Closure Order is available here.
Just a quick reminder that on Friday 19th October we are running a University Challenge game, in conjunction with the Shirley Parochial Church Council, at St Michael’s church from 7.30pm.
Everybody is welcome, either to spectate or even to take part.

It was good to see a local family at the Sports Field today, taking advantage of perfect kite-flying weather. Great idea for the school holidays…
The first Paw Party dog walk took place tonight and was a great success! Thanks to all who took part. It was an enjoyable experience for humans and canines alike. Keep an eye on the Calendar for more Paw Party events – the next walk is on Tuesday 24th July.
Not long now till our first Group Dog Walk from outside the Saracen’s Head to the Sports Field. We hope the walks will be a regular event and we’re planning to hold them once a fortnight. The first walk will be on Tuesday 10th July and is planned to start at 7pm, although we might delay the start a bit if the weather is still very warm. Keep an eye on this blog, or the Calendar on this website for details. Water will be available at the field and we’re hoping to have some doggy paddling pools too.
We also hope to hold a Paw Party Event at the field on Saturday 2nd September. This will have a “Scrufts Dog Show”, fun and games plus food and drink.
We hope you can join us – you don’t even need a dog – all are welcome.
On Wednesday 13th June, Gail Barke’s colleagues from Natwest Derby and Burton Commercial Office kindly volunteered to help us out.
The task for the day was to prepare and paint the goal posts, to mow and mark out the pitch, and to enjoy the wonderful location and weather.
It was a great pleasure to host this enthusiastic group. They threw themselves into the day, and achieved a great result. The field has never looked better. You’re welcome back any time folks – Thank you!
We installed a new combination lock today, along with some security chains on the hinge-side of the field gate. That should stop it ever being lifted off its hinges again.
If you need the combination for the lock, please get in touch with us.
On Sunday 6th May we held an informal training session for new members at the Sports Field. All of the machines were demonstrated and then used to great effect by our trainees. Mid-morning refreshments were provided, including some delicious freshly-baked sweet pastries from the new Church Lane Deli in Shirley. Even the sun turned up.
Thanks to everyone who found time to join us on the Bank Holiday weekend. We look forward to working with you all throughout the Summer Season.
